These guys are located in the northern water areas of Australia, from Broome all the way to Brisbane. They can live up to ripe age of 28 years, and are distinctly recognised by their curved head, unlike the traditional dolphin everybody has become accustomed to. However, this does not mean that they are any less important, they are a very shy type of animal and to have an experience with these guys should be only be available for research purposes!

Unfortunately they are threatened by things such as habitat destruction (mining, dredging etc), being captured in fishing nets, wild predators, pollution of habitat, interaction with vessels and a slow reproductive rate. Only a single population of these guys exist other than Australia and that is in the shores of Papua New Guinea. Due to their distribution in mostly Australian waters and the transition of their habitat, these guys are facing an uphill battle and can soon be in big trouble if we do not monitor and improve their situation.
