The Tuggeranong lignum is a sprawling shrub that can grow up to one meter high and two meters wide. Discovered in 1997 in the ACT, it could be these beautiful earthly wonders were fighting for survival way before their discovery. There is only one known area where these can be found and that is on the flood terraces of the Murrumbidgee River.
Access to these plants are limited as there is no direct path towards them for people to take to visit them. However, people still manage to find their way to visit these plants and because of potential disturbance whether deliberate or unintended, they are putting these beautiful plants in absolute danger of dying out.
It is impossible at the moment to grow these guys back up just through seeds so it is crucial for the future of these plants that we avoid them at all cost. Who knows, maybe in a few years’ time and with enough patience, there will be no reason for people to avoid them.
