These poor little fellas were thought to have been extinct until they were discovered in Hamilton in

1991. Since then, Zoos Victoria have bred 600 Eastern Barred Bandicoots as part of a captive breeding program! They have even been able to reintroduce three small populations into the wild. The reasons why these beautiful little animals were nearly pushed to extinction was due to predators such as cats, and as you can see foxes. Habitat destruction also have played a part in their decline. As a society we must be careful when pushing our agendas over the likes of these poor victims. It is awesome to see that Zoos Victoria have not forgotten about them. To visit the eastern barred bandicoot go visit Werribee Open Range Zoo and you can experience what these beautiful animals have to offer. On behalf of the Eastern Barred Bandicoot I plead for everyone too please don’t forget about us! Further information can be found at: Department of the Environment Australia
