Zoo's Victoria run many programs to help our wild life that range from conversation, animal welfare, zoo infrastructure to education. But after our post on the Eastern Barred Bandicoot we thought we should showcase a truly unimaginable project. Meet Banjo and Mackinnon..... The Eastern Barred Bandicoot's bodyguards!!
Yep that's right folks. These little guys are, or should I say BODYGUARDS, is a breed named Maremma that originate from Italy and have been used in the past to protect livestock. The trial, which is attempting to build a relationship between the Bandicoot's and Maremma willl hopefully result in the bodyguards protecting the bandicoots from predators (mainly foxes).
